AIS Information Sessions


The following is a schedule of AIS overview sessions.

AIS is a large unit, so it's not always possible to have a good understanding of the important work being done in other areas. The overview sessions are designed to address this by giving staff an opportunity to attend sessions related to various AIS units and groups.

While the sessions will be a perfect opportunity for new staff to learn about the department, they're also an excellent opportunity for those who have been here for years to learn more about other parts of AIS.

No RSVPs or registrations are necessary; just show up if you'd like to attend!

Note: Some of the courses will be given via Adobe Connect (direct links included in table below), which will provide an archive; the other sessions will be archived at a future date, with the link to the archive appearing in the session description box below.

February 25, 2013 1:30-2:30 118 Wagner & Adobe Connect Information Services/Consulting Scott Weaver The Information Services/Consulting group is responsible for the following services: eDDS, PeDDS, DR/BCP, Document Imaging, eCommerce, FIT, and Workflow. We will provide a brief overview of each of these services. The video archive is now available: Information Services/Consulting video.
March 18, 2013 1:30-2:30 118 Wagner & Adobe Connect  .NET Development Brian Beiswenger et.al. The AIS .NET Development group is responsible for the development and tier-2 support for the central Student Rating of Teacher Effectiveness System (SRTE), the Course Submission and Consultation System (CSCS), the Program Submission and Consultation System (PSCS), and, most recently, the Course Substitution Request System (CSRS). We are also responsible for enhancements, performance testing, and tier-2 support for our central learning management system (ANGEL). We'll provide a brief overview of these systems and discuss their impact on the university.
March 25, 2013 1:30-2:30 118 Wagner & Adobe Connect AIS Project Management (PMO) Jon Rotholz The AIS PMO group is working to develop a common set of scalable processes and tools to support AIS project managers throughout the project management life-cycle. We will discuss ways in which this effort can have a positive impact on our daily work as project managers and on the success of our projects.
April 8, 2013 1:30-2:30 118 Wagner & Adobe Connect Business Operations Todd Litzinger, Kevin Cramer, Diane Weller, Vicki Hoffman Business Operations is a support unit for AIS, focusing on budgets, contracts, audits, and unit security policy, as well desktop computer support, LAN (Local Area Network) support, training, and Web and communication services (AIS Web site, intranet, multimedia work, etc.). The format will be informal round-table discussion.
April 22, 2013 1:30-2:30 118 Wagner & Adobe Connect Integration Architecture & Programming Kathy Brown The Integration Architecture & Programming (IAP) is a group with the responsibility of providing the “Application Support Infrastructure” to support the development teams within AIS, as well as from the partne offices for the administrative application development primarily in Java, Smalltalk, and Natural. IAP will focus on the areas of framework development & Integration, middleware software, standard methodologies & practices, service-oriented architecture (SOA), expert base for consulting & mentoring, development
May 6, 2013 1:30-2:30 118 Wagner & Adobe Connect Business Intelligence (BI) BI Team The BI Team is responsible for administering the Penn State DW, the Enterprise Information System (EIS), the iTwo system and the new Institutional Data Warehouse.
May 13, 2013 1:30-2:30 118 Wagner & Adobe Connect Database Administration & Management Alex Pollock The Database Administration and Management (DBAM) team manages Penn State Administrative Information Services’ (AIS) central database systems across both IBM mainframe and Windows Intel platforms. The DBAM group manages databases housed by the following database management software: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 UDB, and ADABAS.   
May 20, 2013 1:30-2:30 118 Wagner & Adobe Connect Business Relationship Directors Dawn Boyer & Cheryl Seybold A business relationship director (BRD) is the connection between IT professionals and the business units they represent. This presentation will provide an overview of the BRD role in AIS and the PSU Community. 
June 3, 2013 1:30-2:30 118 Wagner Student Information Systems Development (SISD) Pete Dawson SISD presides over much of the development in  the present Integrated Student Information System (ISIS) and the donor steward system known as eSteward. ISIS  is the repository for all official student-centric information, while eSteward brings together the stewardship of donor gifts and the scholarship and program endowments/accounts that the gifts support.
